Born and raised in the Hampton Roads area, Maxie Lawton is the founding attorney of Lawton Legal Practice, where he is known for his fearless advocacy, sharp legal insight, and deep commitment to the community he calls home. With a practice focused on personal injury, criminal defense, and complex civil matters, Maxie stands shoulder-to-shoulder with his clients—fighting for justice, accountability, and a path forward.
Before becoming an attorney, Maxie served with distinction as a U.S. Army Ranger in Special Operations. His military service instilled in him the discipline, tenacity, and mission-first mindset that now define his approach to law. After medically retiring from the Army, Maxie pursued his legal education at The George Washington University Law School, where he served as President of the Veteran Law Student Association and worked as a student attorney for Rising for Justice.
His legal journey began with a passion for lifting others—shaped by his own story of perseverance and service. Before founding his own firm, Maxie practiced at one of the nation’s top labor and employment law firms, representing Fortune 500 companies and gaining valuable courtroom experience across Virginia.
Maxie understands adversity on a personal level—from battlefield injuries to overcoming life’s toughest moments—and channels that lived experience into passionate, strategic representation.
